{"id":461,"date":"2013-06-28T08:24:28","date_gmt":"2013-06-28T13:24:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kele.com\/keleblog\/?p=461"},"modified":"2022-03-15T16:35:43","modified_gmt":"2022-03-15T21:35:43","slug":"belimo-zip-economizer-time-saver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kele.com\/content\/blog\/2013\/06\/28\/belimo-zip-economizer-time-saver","title":{"rendered":"Belimo Zip Economizer &#8211; Time Saver!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kele.com\/thermostats-and-controllers\/zip-economizer-series.aspx?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=blog.link&amp;utm_campaign=belimo-econ-zip\">Belimo Zip Economizer<\/a> is really a cool product that captured my attention.\u00a0 If you are or were in the field like I was, I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ve struggled just as I did with the &#8220;Black Box&#8221; style of economizer modules.\u00a0 They could be difficult to commission at start-up if the OSA (outside air) was not cool enough for economizing.\u00a0 Also, after installation, troubleshooting the &#8220;Black Box&#8221; style module was an extremely difficult challenge at best.\u00a0 There was almost no way to tell what the unit was doing or what mode it was in.\u00a0 Belimo&#8217;s design team must have had input from field techs because they have designed a product that is easy to install and commission.\u00a0 It is also a breeze to troubleshoot, making it easy to determine if there is a problem and what that problem is.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cZip\u201d in Zip Economizer stands for zip code, as in your postal zip code.\u00a0 No more fumbling with graphs and temperature curves to determine the settings or cross-referencing energy codes. \u00a0All you have to do is enter the 5-digit zip code and you are done. \u00a0Now THAT is cool!!! \u00a0This step will also set up the economizer operation for compliance with all of the following codes and standards.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ASHRAE 90.1 &#8211; Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-rise Residential Buildings<\/li>\n<li>IECC &#8211; International Energy Conservation Code<\/li>\n<li>California Title 24 &#8211; California building energy efficiency standard<\/li>\n<li>NECB &#8211; National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This cool Econ-Zip Economizer also has an LCD display that shows live status information, alarms and failures, and also operating history. \u00a0Check out these features and don&#8217;t overlook the 5-year warranty.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Belimo Zip Economizer Features\" alt=\"Belimo Zip Economizer Features\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.kele.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/6-2013-zip-economizer.jpeg\" width=\"879\" height=\"569\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With the unit&#8217;s plug-and-play design, you only have to worry about setting up the features you want. \u00a0For example: the module, on it&#8217;s own, will work perfectly with just the Econ-Zip-10K temperature sensors installed. \u00a0However, if you want the Econ-Zip to control by calculated enthalpy, simply install the Econ-Zip-TH sensors, which measure temperature and humidity. The Econ-Zip recognizes the sensors and self-configures to control by enthalpy. \u00a0But wait! \u00a0Need a CO2 input? \u00a0The Econ-Zip-EM Energy Module provides additional I\/Os to offer demand-controlled ventilation. \u00a0Any of Kele&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kele.com\/gas-and-specialty-sensors\/co2\/iaq.aspx?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=blog.link&amp;utm_campaign=belimo-econ-zip\">CO2 sensors<\/a> can be used as long as there&#8217;s a 0-10 VDC output.<\/p>\n<p>Belimo has included a manual mode, which can be used during commissioning or troubleshooting.\u00a0 All components can be tested in the manual mode except for the thermostat.\u00a0 The manual mode includes an economizer test, used to verity RTU integrated economizer operation.\u00a0 The ventilation test allows adjustment to the damper minimum position for verification of ventilation rates.\u00a0 The RTU test is used to test the signals from the thermostat to the RTU.\u00a0 The DCV test is used for testing the CO2 input and setpoint.<\/p>\n<p>In my opinion, Belimo did their homework, sharpened their pencils, listened to input from the field, and designed a really cool product that \u201cmakes it easy\u201d to economize.\u00a0 If it is as reliable as their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kele.com\/control-valves\/manufacturer\/belimo.aspx?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=blog.link&amp;utm_campaign=belimo-econ-zip\">valves<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kele.com\/actuators-and-dampers\/manufacturer\/belimo.aspx?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=blog.link&amp;utm_campaign=belimo-econ-zip\">actuators<\/a>, the Econ-Zip is sure to be a hit.\u00a0 I can only say I wished I\u2019d had this around during my field years.<\/p>\n<p>Visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kele.com\/thermostats-and-controllers\/zip-economizer-series.aspx?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=blog.link&amp;utm_campaign=belimo-econ-zip\">Econ-Zip product page<\/a> to learn more and to purchase.
