They're the Tops in Customer Service - And They Make it Easy Too

Categories: Kele Makes It Easy!

Now that we’ve got the worst company for customer service out of the way, we can talk about the best. L.L. Bean was voted number one! Others on list were Costco and Overstock.com. There was one other but can’t recall the name. However, the one I want to talk about here is a giant in many ways—and especially in terms of great service. It was not number 1 on the list, but it is in my book. (Continue Reading) recliner

How I (Begrudgingly) Built My First iPhone App

Categories: Kele Makes It Easy!

I couldn’t help myself: I wanted to create my own iPhone app. The programmer in me was itching to try it, but something else was holding me back. I’d never programmed in Objective C. So I kept finding every excuse to put off my foray into app land.

First I convinced myself that my MacBook Pro was too expensive to use as a development machine. I decided that I’d set to work on the app only if I could find an affordable Mac—meaning less than $800. Impossible, right?

I began searching half-heartedly for such a mythical machine, only to discover that I’d set my budget too high. Before my eyes was a brand-new, inexpensive Mac mini with OSX. Wonderful. Now I had no excuse not to learn Objective C.

After work, I purchased the mini, which, to my relief, did not come with a keyboard, mouse, or monitor. Another reason to delay! Best Buy was on my way home, so I thought, “I’ll stop in, and if I can get what I need for less than $150, I’ll move forward.” That way I could tell myself at least I tried. They had a 19” Gateway monitor for $139.00, but I still had hope—the keyboard and mouse would put me over the limit. I bought the monitor, expecting I’d sit on things for a month or so until I found a reason to buy the mouse and keyboard.

At home, I unpacked everything and assembled what I could. The machine sat there, no mouse or keyboard. Pretty to look at but useless as is. I took all the boxes into the spare room, opened the closet door, and there it was—fate staring me in the eye. I had forgotten about the mouse and keyboard to my PC that I had replaced with wireless versions.

They were USB. Just right for the mini. (Continue Reading)

The Nation's Worst Company for Customer Service

Categories: Kele Makes It Easy!
I was kicked back in my recliner after work last night, in my usual position: in front of the TV, remote in hand, zipping from one mind-numbing program to the next. I landed on our local news channel (my thumb must have gotten tired) as the anchorman was announcing the next segment: the top five best, and worst, companies in customer service. My interest was piqued. Any guesses who was the worst?  (Continue Reading) recliner

How Many Square Feet Does a Gas Sensor Cover?

Categories: Technical Issues

That’s a common question. If there was a good, all purpose answer to it, we’d make sure it was in every data sheet and on every Web page. Unfortunately, physical area isn’t the limiting factor in all cases.  (Continue Reading)
