Q. What is the difference between SCIM and SCFM?

A. They both are a measure of air consumption in a pneumatic control system. However, all calculations must use the same scale for proper sizing.

*SCFM is the abbreviation for Standard Cubic Feet per Minute.
*SCIM is the abbreviation for Standard Cubic Inches per Minute.

The two measure the same thing but in different scales (inches & feet). The following is the scaling conversion formula.

SCIM = 1728 x SCFM

SCFM = SCIM / 1728

*Standard conditions are defined as 14.7 psia and 60°F.
