Q. I would like to use a 360C Differential Pressure Transmitter with an existing orifice plate flow sensor. I realize that the differential pressure is proportional to the square of the flow. Is there a simple way to linearize this signal?

A. Flow measurement with differential pressure type flow sensors is one of the reasons Kele developed the square root version of the Universal Math Module. The UMM-1-SQ (enclosed version), or UMM-2-SQ (snap track version) will accept the 4-20 mA signal from the 360C, and output the square root of this signal. This output is proportional to flow.
